NYPD getting new choppers capable of sending aerial images to police on street

The New York City Police Department to improving its eye in the sky.

The NYPD announced it will be trading in its current helicopters for newer ones capable of sending aerial images to police in the street along with an improved infrared camera system, The Daily News reported.

The price tag for the four double-engine Bell 429s is unclear, but the NYPD told the paper the new model is faster and safer than the Augusta Westlands choppers, which the department currently uses. The newer choppers will be put into use beginning this summer.
