A 20-year-old Michigan State University student has died after he and another student were shot in their apartment near the school's campus.

East Lansing police say Dominique Nolff was pronounced dead at 9:23 a.m. Saturday from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police are still searching for the unnamed suspect believed to be in his 20s. The suspect is described as a black male, wearing tan pants, a black coat and black shoes or boots.

Authorities say the shooting "does not appear random."

The second shooting victim, also in his 20s, was treated at a hospital and later released.

Officers were called about 8:50 p.m. Friday about a report of a shooting at the Cedar Village apartment complex, which is located less than a mile from the Michigan State campus.

University police tweeted that students were alerted by text messages about the shooting.

Dispatchers with the city and campus police departments said early Saturday there was no further information to release.

"His life was taken so short," Heather Bush, Nolff's aunt told MLive.com. "He would do anything for anybody," she said.

Bush told MLive.com Nolff graduated from Thornapple Kellogg and was in his second year at MSU.

Nolff was from Middleville, and the second unidentified victim is a Grand Haven resident.
