A prosecutor says an Ohio woman accused with her husband of abandoning the adopted 9-year-old son they raised since infancy has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and received a suspended jail sentence.

The charge against the husband has been dropped.

Lisa and Cleveland Cox were initially charged with nonsupport of dependents. Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser (MOH'-zur) says she pleaded guilty Monday to attempted nonsupport of dependents.

Authorities say the Liberty Township couple left the boy with child welfare officials in October after saying he displayed aggressive behavior and earlier threatened the family with a knife.

They could have gotten up to six months in jail and a fine. Lisa Cox's 90-day sentence was suspended based partly on efforts to reunify with the boy.
