Doormen, other NYC building workers trained to spot signs of abuse against elderly

Doormen and other workers in New York apartment buildings are being trained to spot signs of abuse against elderly tenants.

The attorney who conducts the training says doormen are valuable because they know what's going on and who's coming and going.

At a recent training session in a building's laundry room, she told doormen to watch for rarely seen relatives, a tenant's change of mood, and bruises.

She said workers can fight various kinds of abuse, including physical and financial.

The program is a partnership between an abuse prevention center and the building workers' union. A union leader called it a natural fit.
