NEW YORK – New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH'-zee-oh) is calling for the federal government to help support the Sept. 11 museum at the World Trade Center.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is set to open this spring after years of delays. But officials at the museum haven't secured funding for its $60 million annual budget.
The museum was denied by Congress and by de Blasio's predecessor, Michael Bloomberg. Its officials will ask de Blasio to reconsider Bloomberg's decision.
De Blasio said Wednesday the lower Manhattan site is "nationally important" and Washington should contribute funding. He won't say whether the city might help.
The museum will charge around $20 per ticket. Ticket and souvenir sales should cover about 60 percent of the $60 million budget.
