New Obamacare Bombshell; Duck Dynasty Disaster

Another Obamacare bombshell has landed.

The Wall Street Journal reporting that the Obama Administration will allow millions of Americans whose insurance policies were cancelled to get bare-bones plans next year. Insurance companies will not be thrilled.

Folks whose policies were cancelled over new coverage requirements will now be able to buy so-called catastrophic plans that cover 3 primary care visits a year and some preventative benefits plus cover large medical costs after a high deductible.

Meantime, there's been a surge of new Obamacare signups among states that run their own exchanges. The increases range from 30 to 40 percent in past few weeks in some spots.. just a few days before the first sign up deadline of December 23rd.

Customers of Target are pissed (including one of our producers). Apparently the store chain new as early as Sunday that millions of credit and debit card accounts were stolen. At least 1 lawsuit already filed. It didn't become public knowledge until mid-week.

The Senate was busy last night.. passing a $633 billion defense authorization bill that funds the military through 2014. It also cracks down on sex assault in the military.

They also announced they will vote on the nomination of Janet Yellen to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve in January. There will be some test votes today, but it looks like they've reached a deal to go home for the Christmas break and return to work in the new year.

President Obama and the first family leave for Honolulu tonight for their annual Christmas vacation.

More voters have a positive opinion of former President George W. Bush than President Barack Obama, according to the latest Fox News Poll. But former President Bill Clinton is liked best of all of them.

The poll finds 50 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of Bush, while 47 percent have an unfavorable view.

By contrast, Obama has a net negative rating: 46 percent have a favorable opinion of him, while 52 percent have an unfavorable opinion.

President Obama ends his fifth year in office under water on his job rating by 12 percentage points: 41 percent of voters approve of the job he's doing, while 53 percent disapprove.

The Duck Dynasty scandal, suspension and backlash to the backlash continues to intensify.

One of the show's biggest sponsors "Under Armour" says it will stick by the show.

You likely heard, the show's star Phil Robertson did an interview with GQ magazine where he railed against gays and lesbians comparing homosexuality to bestiality and gays to drunkards and swindlers.

What's been lost somewhat in the brouhaha is Robertson's comments about black people. Robertson seemed to suggest African Americans were happy under restrictive Jim Crow laws in the South.

In any event, there's been a huge outcry from some in the public about political correctness run amok. We'll dig into the mess.


Brian Boitano is a 1988 Olympic figure skating gold medalist. He is part of the official American delegation to the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia (Russia is in the midst of an anti-gay crackdown.) He has also just come out of the closet as a gay man. Boitano said, I am many things: a son, a brother, and uncle, a friend, an athlete, a cook, an author, and being gay is just one part of who I am. First and foremost I am an American athlete and I am proud to live in a country that encourages diversity, openness and tolerance. As an athlete, I hope we can remain focused on the Olympic spirit which celebrates achievement in sport by peoples of all nations."

Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a goodwill campaign.. in front of The Winter Olympics which begin February 7th.

He's freed Russia's most famous prisoner Mikhail Khodorkovsky.. former Chief of Yukos Oil. He also tells NBC he'll free the girl group "Pussy Riot," - the lady band who've been put behind bars for making anti-government comments (while topless!)

A theater in London partially collapses injuring some 75 people who were watching a play.

A new government survey in the U.S. says the days of the "detached dad" are numbered. Most surveyed now say they are heavily involved with child rearing.
