KEENE, N.H. – A judge has declared a mistrial after jurors couldn't reach a verdict in the trial of a man accused of setting a 1989 fire that killed a family of four in Keene, N.H.
The jury had deliberated since Tuesday afternoon but was unable to reach a unanimous decision.
Prosecutors say David McLeod planned, then bragged about setting the fire and should finally be held accountable.
A lawyer for the 57-year-old McLeod argued his cruel statements don't prove his guilt and no new evidence has emerged to link him to the fire.
McLeod was charged with four counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Carl and Lori Hina, their 4-month-old daughter, Lillian, and Carl Hina's 12-year-old daughter, Sara.
