Authorities: Girl, 5, hid from adults and survived shooting that claimed her parents, brother

Authorities say a 5-year-old girl who hid from quarreling adults has escaped unharmed from a shooting in a Maryland subdivision that claimed the lives of her parents and infant brother.

Capt. Tim Clark with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office says the girl came out of hiding after the shooting and went to a neighbor's house. She said her mother, father and brother were hurt.

Clarke says authorities are investigating the deaths near New Market, about 40 west of Baltimore, as a case of murder and suicide. He says a handgun was found and the girl is in the care of child protective services.

He identified the victims as 40-year-old Benyam Asefa, 42-year-old Barbara Giomarelli and 3-month-old Samuel Asefa.

He said investigators haven't determined a motive or who fired shots.
