A South Texas transgender student says his school district is preventing a photo of him in a tuxedo from appearing in his high school's yearbook.

Jeydon Loredo, who grew up female but now identifies as a male, says the La Feria school district is not allowing his photograph because it violates "community standards."

Jeydon's mother, Stella Loredo, says she was told a photograph would be included only if her 18-year-old son wore feminine attire.

The Southern Poverty Law Center says it intends to file a lawsuit if a decision allowing the tuxedo photograph to be included isn't made by Nov. 21.

In a statement, Superintendent Raymundo Villarreal says the district hopes to resolve the issue.

La Feria is located about 30 miles east of McAllen.
