Detroit police say two people have died and eight others have been wounded in a gun attack in a retail district on the city's east side.

Police told MyFoxDetroit.com that they were looking for two men driving separate Chevrolet Impalas; one black, one white. Authorities also said that the windows of the white Impala may have been shot out.

Police had initially said three people were dead, but later revised that number down to two.  Police sources told MyFoxDetroit.com that they believe the shooting happened because of a gambling dispute. The barbershop, Al's, is believed to be a center of gambling activity.

According to police spokeswoman Kelly Miner, two cars pulled up outside the barbershop, and people in the vehicles exchanged gunfire with each other.

"Somehow someone shot into the building, and that's when people rushed out of the building and were running into other area businesses for cover," she said. Miner said both of the dead men were inside the barbershop.

Police Chief James Craig told reporters at the scene that "suspects engaged a couple of victims" and says "several shots were fired." A witness told MyFoxDetroit that he heard between "50 to 60 gunshots."
