An Indianapolis police officer has been convicted of driving drunk and causing a 2010 crash that killed a motorcyclist and seriously injured two other people.

An Allen County jury deliberated for about seven hours before returning its verdict Tuesday in the case of Officer David Bisard.

Bisard faced reckless homicide, criminal recklessness, drunken driving and other charges in the August 2010 crash that killed 30-year-old motorcyclist Eric Wells and seriously hurt two others.

Prosecutors said Bisard had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. Defense attorneys argued that the blood was mishandled and presented witnesses who saw no signs that Bisard was intoxicated.

The case sparked resignations and a series of demotions within the department.
