Authorities in Mississippi say they have recovered items belonging to a family that vanished Friday after a car accident.

Fox 19 reports the items belonging to 30-year-old Atira Hughes-Smith, her 7-year-old son Jaidon Hill and her husband 34-year-old Laterry Smith were found in a dumpster at a gas station Monday, and officers were still searching the area for clues.

The family has not been seen or heard from since Friday, when Hughes-Smith’s relatives say she called them and told them she was leaving for a few days. The relatives told officials the call ended abruptly and they have not heard from her since.

Authorities found the family’s car Saturday after it crashed in the western part of the county near the town of Carpenter. No one was inside.

Information on a missing persons poster from the Copiah County Sheriff's Department said the family may be in need of medical attention, the Associated Press reports.
