BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A judge is scheduled to decide if a Georgia man will ever have a chance of being released from prison after a jury convicted him of killing his father and seven extended family members inside the mobile home they all shared.
Guy Heinze Jr. was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday afternoon by Glynn County Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett. Under Georgia law, Heinze can be sentenced only to life in prison, either with or without the possibility of parole.
A jury convicted the 26-year-old Heinze last Friday of malice murder in the killings of all eight victims found beaten to death in August 2009.
Heinze was spared a possible death sentence by a last-minute deal that allowed prosecutors and defense attorneys to avoid a hung jury.
