An 88-year-old Army veteran died Friday while on an 'Honor Flight' to Washington, D.C.

The man, who has not been identified, was traveling with a group of fellow veterans to the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, KGW.com reported.

Gayle Yakopatz, the trip organizer, told the station the man had family members with him on the plane. The Honor Flight Network regularly brings World War II veterans to Washington.

Marine veteran Bob Pattock said the man's family encouraged the group to continue with their plans so other veterans could experience the Honor Flight.

"As we were landing in Chicago he came out of the bathroom and he did a spiral and laid on the floor and he was gone," Pattock said.
