Police: 2 Memphis officers wounded in shootout with suspect facing attempted murder charges

Authorities say two Memphis police officers were wounded as they tried to arrest a man wanted on attempted murder charges.

The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1bUwJPW) reports that police said Aaron Dumas opened fire when officers tried to arrest him at his mother's home around 1:30 Tuesday.

Police Director Toney Armstrong said Officer Timothy Jackson, a five-year veteran, was struck in the leg.

Armstrong said the suspect then barricaded himself in the house. He said that when officers threw a chemical agent into the home about four hours later, Dumas fired back, hitting a second officer, who has not been identified. Both officers are in stable condition.

After the second shooting, Armstrong said Dumas set the house on fire and remained inside. Authorities said they haven't been able to verify if the suspect is still alive.

A police spokeswoman did not immediately return a call to The Associated Press.
