Police say a man who once worked at a New York light fixture company walked into his former employer's office and opened fire, wounding two people and leading to the lockdown of a nearby mall.

The shooting occurred near the Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City, about 30 miles east of New York City. The conditions of the injured aren't known.

The gunman fled in a white SUV on a mall access road. Police are still looking for him.

Area roads are blocked off as police investigate. The mall and nearby schools were have been placed on lockdown as a precaution.

A message left for the man's former employer wasn't immediately returned.
