A cash-only $500,000 bond has been set for a Phoenix man accused of leaving his 1-year-old son in a hot car while he went to work.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 28-year-old Brokale Lytte Marques was arraigned Tuesday on a second-degree murder charge.

He doesn't have a lawyer yet. An Oct. 1 status conference and Oct. 3 preliminary hearing are scheduled in his case.

Marques was arrested Saturday after his son was found at a Scottsdale mall parking lot in a lethargic state.

Authorities say Marques told investigators he left the baby in a car seat because he was unable to find a sitter.

Marques told investigators he initially left the vehicle running and the air conditioning on, but later turned it off.

Scottsdale police say the child died Monday evening.
