The Marine Corps says the death of a Marine during a training accident in the California desert occurred when an amphibious assault vehicle caught fire.

A Camp Pendleton statement Wednesday identifies the Marine as Cpl. Nicholas Sell of Eagle Point, Ore. Sell was a member of the 3rd Assault Amphibious Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He enlisted on May 3, 2010.

The accident occurred Monday during a battalion assault course at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, about 130 miles east of Los Angeles. Circumstances of the accident and the specific type of vehicle were not released.

An earlier Marine Corps statement said four other Marines were also injured in the accident, including three who were treated and released and one who was hospitalized in stable condition.
