Vivienne Tam's Shanghai Calendar Girls - #NYFW Spring 2014 collections

Vivienne Tam's Spring 2014 show at Lincoln Center yesterday was a tribute to Shanghai. It was a return to a far East inspiration for the Chinese-born designer.

Tam told me backstage that she was inspired by 1930's Shanghai calendar girls. Tam called her "the new Shanghai girl - A woman who travels a lot, is comfortable and free, and can go day to evening."

Tam's runway featured a skyline illustration of China's largest city, and the skyline pattern showed up on some of the clothes too.

The bare midriff that I've been seeing on a lot of runways was well represented here as well.

Nice use of colors especially the jades and blues. Black and white also dominated.

Among the celebrities in the front row? Tiffani Thiessen and a couple of starlets who this reporter didn't recognize.
