An 8-year-old New Jersey girl was injured Friday when her leg got caught in an escalator at a Macy’s department store, MyFoxNY.com reported.

The report said a witness saw the girl’s leg pulled in by the escalator. She was removed, but her leg appeared to be crushed, the witness said. One witness told NorthJersey.com that the escalator appeared to have ‘swallowed her foot.’

"Our immediate thoughts and prayers go out to the young girl and her family," Macy's said in a statement. "We are currently conducting a full internal investigation into this morning's unfortunate incident at our store."

The girl was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center with serious injuries to her lower right leg and foot, NorthJersey.com reports. Police say they’re investigation the incident.
