Police: NJ bus driver was on phone when he hit lamppost that fell onto stroller, killing baby

Authorities say a bus driver in northern New Jersey was talking on his cellphone when he crashed, triggering a chain reaction accident that killed an 8-month-old girl.

Authorities have issued summonses for reckless driving and using a cellphone while driving for 48-year-old Idowu Daramola of New York.

Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari tells The Jersey Journal (http://bit.ly/1cnolpJ ) the bus driver will be charged with death by auto.

Authorities in West New York say the bus on Tuesday struck a lamppost, which fell onto a stroller. The bus then hit a tree, another lamppost and a parked car, which struck three other parked vehicles.

Officer Michael Stetson says he found the infant, Angela Paredes, bleeding from the head and not breathing. She died on the way to a hospital.

In all, seven people were sent to hospitals.
