Police say Indianapolis Colts safety Joe Lefeged has been arrested on gun-related charges after a traffic stop in Washington.

D.C. police spokesman Araz Alali says Lefeged was a passenger in a car that fled from police after a traffic stop for speeding early Saturday morning.

Police say they found a handgun in the car that authorities believe belonged to Lefeged.

Lefeged and another passenger face charges including carrying a pistol without a license and possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition. Alali says the car's driver fled.

Lefeged is 25 and from Germantown, a Washington suburb. He's entering his third season in the NFL.

He's due in D.C. Superior Court on Saturday afternoon.

Team spokesman Avis Roper said Saturday that the Colts have no comment at this time.
