The New York-based Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund plans to explain a ruling by the Colorado Civil Rights Division that allows a 6-year-old to use the girls' bathroom.

The group filed the complaint on behalf of Kathryn and Jeremy Mathis claiming that Coy Mathis has been discriminated against at Eagleside Elementary School in Fountain. They say Coy is transgender but has been forced to use the boys' restroom.

Kathryn Mathis says in a statement that the family is thrilled that Coy can return to school and "put this behind her."

The Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 told Coy's parents in December that the first-grader would not be able to continue to use the girls' restroom after the holiday break.

The fund scheduled a news conference Monday in Denver.
