Authorities have arrested a 72-year-old man in connection with a stolen car found burning with three bodies inside in rural Northern California.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that Donald Clark was taken into custody and booked into jail on suspicion of murder and arson. He is being held on a little more than $3 million bail.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Miranda Bowersox declined to release additional details, including a motive.

The burning car, which was reported stolen to Sacramento police, was discovered on June 13 in Magalia. Magalia is about 90 miles north of Sacramento. Two bodies were in the trunk and a third was in the backseat.

Sheriff's officials say they each had gunshot wounds. They have been tentatively identified as Sacramento residents, but authorities are not releasing names.
