Salt Lake City woman charged after dog's death by Raid spray

A Salt Lake City woman has been charged with felony animal torture after police say she killed her dog by spraying Raid down its throat.

The 53-year-old woman was also charged Tuesday with misdemeanor animal cruelty and felony obstruction of justice following her arrest on Saturday.

Police say a neighbor went to throw away trash when he spotted a dog's body in his apartment complex's garbage bin.

The neighbor called police, who spoke with the dog's owner. She reportedly told them she put her hand over the dog's mouth before spraying the pesticide down its throat and then dumping the body.

Police say a mental health crisis team responded to evaluate her before she was booked in jail.
