North Carolina police are trying to piece together a bizarre series of events after three people were found dead in the same Best Western hotel room in less than two months.

Authorities in Boone say an 11-year-old boy, Jeffrey Lee Williams, was found dead Saturday in a room at the Best Western, and his mother, 49-year-old Jeannie Williams, was in a coma, NBC Charlotte reports.

Pastor Scott Davis of Northside Baptist Church in Rock Hill, S.C., where the Williams’ are from, said they were visiting Boone on a family vacation.

Boone Police Sgt. Shane Robbins told NBC Charlotte that on April 16, an elderly couple was found dead in the same room, but authorities don’t see any connection yet to the Williams death.

Both cases are still under investigation, Robbins said, adding that there did not appear to be any violence involved in the Williams death.
