Southern Plains, Ozarks clean up as storms that killed 12 in floods, tornado move east

Clearing skies returned to the Southern Plains and Ozarks as residents cleaned up from severe weather that killed nine people in an Oklahoma tornado and at least three others in an Arkansas flash flood.

Friday night's storm in the Oklahoma City area arrived during rush hour, catching motorists on the highways as some tried to run from the storm. An EF5 tornado in the area May 20 killed 24 people, and many residents said they didn't want to be caught as a new storm approached.

The Storm Prediction Center says the East Coast could expect severe weather Sunday, though not as bad as that in the Midwest. Straight line winds and hail could threaten anywhere along the East Coast from Washington, D.C., to northern Maine.
