Relative a person of interest after woman, 2 young children stabbed in California

Authorities were interviewing a man described as a "person of interest" in the stabbing deaths of a 1-year-old boy and a 48-year-old woman who were found in a home in an unincorporated area near San Jose Wednesday afternoon.

The boy, the woman and a 3-year-old girl were found at the home by a family member at around 3:30 p.m., Santa Clara County Deputy Kurtis Stenderup said. The girl survived the attack and was in stable condition at a hospital, he said.

Sheriff's deputies and K-9 teams searched through the neighborhood for several hours to try to locate 27-year-old Ruben Ramirez, a relative of the victims. Television helicopter live shots showed heavily armed deputies, some with dogs, going yard-to-yard, while cameras on the ground captured video of distraught family members arriving outside the home.

U.S. Marshals and San Francisco police helped find Ramirez in San Francisco Wednesday night. He was being interviewed there, Stenderup said.

Ramirez suffers from mental health problems, and authorities have had prior contact with him, Stenderup said.
