NASHUA, N.H. – A New Hampshire man convicted of killing his 2-year-old stepson in 1991 has been a fugitive since the eve of his conviction, but has been very much on the radar screen of federal authorities who say he is serving an 18-year sentence in Greece for the boy's death.
The FBI and Greek officials said Friday 45-year-old Steven Kamberidis was captured in Greece and tried and convicted again for the 1989 death of James Chartier of Nashua, N.H.
Police in Greece confirmed that Kamberidis, a Greek national, was arrested Feb. 5 near Thessaloniki, the country's second-largest city.
In May 1991, Kamberidis was free on bond when he disappeared the day before he was convicted of second-degree murder. He was sentenced in absentia in New Hampshire to 30 years to life.
