ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Police say a man charged with stabbing three people at an Albuquerque Catholic church because he thought a choir leader was a Mason vandalized a Masonic lodge hours before his attack.
Authorities say Lawrence Capener told police that he tagged the Sandoval No. 76 Masonic Lodge in Rio Rancho with spray paint on Sunday. Police found red and blue spray paint on signs, outside walls and a door. Investigators say he also left the message, "I hope you guess who I am."
Police say Capener attacked a choir leader at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church at the end of Sunday Mass services. At least two others were stabbed in the attack.
He is charged with aggravated battery and is being held on $250,000 bail. No attorney is listed for Capener.
