2-year-old mauled to death by family pit bull

A 2-year-old boy was mauled to death Wednesday by a pit bull after the boy's mother left the two unattended while she went to the restroom, MyFoxAtlanta.com reported.

The mother, who was not identified in the report, ran outside the house and rolled around on the ground, Joseph Messam, a neighbor said. He said she was yelling, "The dog killed my baby!"

The dog was a family pet for eight years and will reportedly observed for several days. The mother was taken to the hospital for observation. Police in Fulton County do not expect to file any charges, the report said.
