LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas officials are recommending blood tests for about 100 young patients of a dentist who sedated them with a drug possibly contaminated with infectious material.
The Department of Health is contacting patients treated by the now deceased Dr. William Jarrod Stewart at several clinics between Nov. 20, 2011, and Feb. 20, 2012. Officials said patients of other clinic doctors, or patients who did not receive intravenous sedation, are not believed to be at risk.
The clinics are the Ocean Dental clinics in Fayetteville, Hot Springs, Jonesboro and Little Rock and the Bevans Pediatric Dentistry in Little Rock.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the transmission of infectious diseases in dental offices is rare. State officials said Tuesday they were not aware of any illnesses linked to the clinics.
