North Korea doubling down on its threats to attack the United States with nuclear weapons. A North Korean army spokesman says the military has been cleared to wage nuclear war. South Korea is reporting the North has moved a missile with "considerable range" to the East Coast. Meantime, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said he didn't want to make a mistake, but the rhetoric needed to be calmed down. The WSJ meantime, is reporting the U.S. is dialing back on a show of force for fear it could lead to a bigger crisis. The WSJ quotes an administration plan called the "playbook," that had laid out a series of shows of force. We have several good guests today. Amy Kellogg reporting.
A sheriff known for cracking down on drugs in West Virginia has been gunned down. Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum was shot while sitting in his police cruiser. A suspect is hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
Police in Colorado are urging people to be on the lookout for two known associates of a white supremacist gang. The pair are not being called suspects, but are wanted in questioning on the murder of the head of Colorado's prisons, and a pizza delivery man. James Lohr and Thomas Guolee are believed to belong to the same gang as Evan Ebel. Ebel was killed after a shootout with police in Texas. He's believed to be behind both murders. Alicia Acuna reporting.
Police in Texas say they're not close to any arrests yet in the murder of the Kaufman County District Attorney and his wife. Investigators are looking into connections between the murder of the McLellands and the shooting death of the county's chief felony prosecutor less than two months ago. There is a public memorial today where Governor Rick Perry is expected to speak. He's also possibly holding a news conference at 12:15. Dan Springer reporting.

An assistant U.S. attorney who had been prosecuting the Aryan Brotherhood has now withdrawn from that case citing safety concerns.
