Authorities say a teenage girl from New Jersey foiled a woman's attempt to kidnap her when she deliberately steered a car she was allegedly forced to drive into a police car.

MyFoxPhilly.com reports that Floribert Nava, 45, of Wildwood, demanded the girl take her to the home of the family that had adopted a child at the center of a custody dispute.

Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor said Nava wanted the child for herself.

As the teen drove on the Ben Franklin Bridge, she saw a police cruiser parked on the shoulder. She purposely hit it and jumped out to tell the officer what had happened.

Taylor said Nava had a handgun and a bag containing duct tape, trash bags and latex gloves.

Nava has been charged with kidnapping, terroristic threats, and possession of a weapon, according to MyFoxPhilly.com.

She is being held at Cape May County Correctional Facility on $400,000 bail.
