MEDFORD, Mass. – An attorney is protesting the $500,000 bail set for an Irish nanny accused of beating a Massachusetts infant who later died.
Thirty-four-year-old Aisling (ASH'-ling) McCarthy Brady is being held on charges of assault and battery in the death of Rehma Sabir of Cambridge, Mass. The baby was hospitalized with head injuries Jan. 14, her first birthday, and died days later.
Brady's lawyer asked a judge Friday to reduce bail, saying prosecutors have kept Brady in jail for months despite not filing a murder charge against her. Prosecutors say they plan more serious charges, but are waiting on medical findings.
Immigration officials also have a detainer on Brady, saying she is in the U.S. illegally.
The judge set an April 22 hearing, but said the bail request belongs in another court.
