An 8-foot-long alligator was removed from roadway storm drain in Florida last week, authorities said.

Pinellas County deputies and officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were notified of the stuck animal on Friday, after it was spotted by a resident near 94th Ave. and 117th St. North in Largo. When authorities arrived, the animal was found — just blocks away from an elementary school — stuck in the drain with its head trapped in the opening.

Deputies and bystanders then pulled the alligator out of the drainage opening after a trapper responded, authorities said.

The alligator will be transported to an alligator farm near Dover, Fla., officials said.
