A 9-year-old girl is credited with saving her mother's life by stopping their car after her mother passed out behind the wheel during a diabetic emergency.
MyFoxChicago.com reports that Aleksandra Sheridan was riding in the passenger seat of her mother's car in Frankfort, Il., when her mother's blood sugar dropped dangerously low and she lost control of the vehicle.
Aleksandra turned off the key to stop the car, preventing the vehicle from crashing into a tree. Her mother, Jennifer, reportedly drove at excessive speeds before the car came to a stop.
"At one point she went through a stoplight and then at the next point she was going over 70 miles per hour," Aleksandra tells MyFoxChicago.com. "She slowed down once I told her to and we ended up going off the road."
Aleksandra then gave chocolate bars to her mother and waited for police to arrive. No one was injured during the incident.
"Thank God that we didn't get hurt and we didn't get into an accident or hurt anyone else," the third-grader tells MyFoxChicago.com.
Aleksandra's mother says she will now administer her diabetes medicine using an insulin pump, the report states.
