The City of Aurora is asking a judge to let it talk about the July movie theater shooting that killed 12 and injured 70 there.

An attorney for the city filed papers asking the judge in the trial of suspect James Holmes to lift the gag order he issued a few days after the attack. The filing was made public Wednesday.

The city says it wants to share the story of how it dealt with the massacre with other police and fire departments. It also has received several public records requests about the attack.

The city argues the gag order is moot because prosecutors laid out their evidence against Holmes in a hearing last week. Holmes is scheduled to be arraigned in March on 166 felony counts.
