Trial nears in death of NC elderly woman while similar cases go unsolved, haunt survivors

Next week jury selection begins for the murder trial of a man accused of killing an elderly woman in a small North Carolina city.

Fifty-three-year-old Donald Borders is only charged in the 2003 death of 79-year-old Margaret Tessneer in Shelby, about 50 miles west of Charlotte.

But survivors of two other elderly women found dead in similar circumstances around the same time want to know whether he's behind those deaths, too.

Nearly a decade later, the deaths of 85-year-old Lottie Ledford and 87-year-old Lillian Mullinax remain unsolved. Ledford's nephew pressed for police take a closer look at her case.

Her death was ruled from natural causes, but her funeral director found bruises on her face. The front door of her home was left open and the phone line was cut.
