A mass in Newtown, Conn., was temporarily evacuated Sunday after a caller "threatened to kill people in the church," according to a church spokesman.

Brian Wallace, a spokesman for the St. Rose of Lima Church, said someone called and threatened to disrupt mass.

When asked by FoxNews.com about reports that the caller said "I'm coming to kill, I'm coming to kill," Wallace said it was threats of that nature.

Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance said earlier Sunday that the church was closed due to a "threat of violence."

Vance would not elaborate on what the threat was, but a state and Newtown police search of the church found nothing.

“I came to church with my family and we were scared,” Evelyn Leon, a 17-year-old, told FoxNews.com.

The church will also host eight funerals this week for children who lost their lives in the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting, Wallace added.

Fox News’ Ashley Alderman contributed to this report.
