A southwestern Pennsylvania couple has died hours apart after 65 years of marriage.

Barry Werner tells the Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown that LaVerne and Robert Werner spent their lives in Meyersdale, the borough about 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh where both were born.

Robert Werner, who was 91, was suffering from Alzheimer's disease which prompted the couple to move about four months ago to a personal care home where they shared a room.

Both died Tuesday, about 12 hours apart.

Werner says his mother, a year older than her husband, died first after a series of mini-strokes.

Werner says his father appeared to realize something was wrong despite his mental condition and says, "I could tell by his actions that something was bothering him."

He died a short time later.
