A 27-year-old upstate New York man has been accused of battering his mother to death and hiding her body under a shed at their home has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge.

Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy III says Joshua McWain also faces an evidence tampering charge in the grand jury indictment Wednesday.

Police say he killed Carol Stanford with a blunt object on Oct. 27. Her body was found on the property in the town of Greenfield after concerned neighbors reported they hadn't seen her.

McWain is set to be arraigned and enter a plea in the next several days.

Greenfield is 30 miles north of Albany.
