A Florida woman celebrating her 25th birthday in Cancun, Mexico was killed last week when a ceiling beam fell on her at a five-star resort where she was staying with her boyfriend, ActionNewsJax.com reported.

Lauren DuFresne, who worked as a financial analyst for Fidelity Information Services, was standing on her hotel patio when the overhead concrete beam got dislodged and fell on her, the station reported.

DuFresne, who was called ‘Duf,’ played volleyball and attended the University of Florida.

"You don't know how to react," said Brittany Eppley, a friend and former high school teammate. "It's like you can't believe it because it feels like just yesterday she was here with us playing volleyball, and we were out there on that court."
