MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Authorities say seven students were arrested following a brawl that prompted a lockdown at a suburban New York City high school and a large police response.
Mount Vernon mayor's office said students were fighting and tossing bottles, cans and food when they arrived at the cafeteria, where the melee erupted Thursday afternoon.
Police called for backup from city, county and state law enforcement agencies.
The district's three high schools and two middle schools were locked down as a precaution.
Charges against the seven students were not disclosed.
There were no injuries. The cause of the fight wasn't immediately clear.
After breaking up the melee, police were stationed in and around the school to ensure students could walk home and board buses safely.
