Authorities on Long Island say a 6-year-old boy was killed and several people were injured when a public bus crashed into a house in Hempstead.
Hempstead police say the boy was inside the home when the bus hit a pedestrian before plowing into the multi-family house. The boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the bus had swerved to avoid the pedestrian, lost control and went into the house. It happened at about 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fulton Street and Nassau Place.
Police say the injured were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions and the number of people injured were not immediately known. The pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The bus is part of the Nassau Inter County Express (NICE) system.
