Woman tied to cartel is arrested, Border Patrol says

The Border Patrol says it arrested a woman suspected of links to the family of Mexico's most wanted drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

Spokesman Paul Carr said Friday the woman was arrested on suspected immigration violations Monday at a Border Patrol checkpoint in San Clemente, south of Los Angeles. He says a fingerprint check verified that she is Zulema Aracely Lindoro, whose student visa was revoked in March for suspected ties to Guzman's family.

The spokesman says there's no evidence to suggest she was involved in the drug trade. Border Patrol documents identify her as a spouse of Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, who faces U.S. financial sanctions for suspected cartel involvement. Carr didn't know if the couple was legally married.

Carr says Lindoro returned to Mexico voluntarily on Friday.
