Relatives of the 100 people who died in a 2003 Rhode Island nightclub fire have been joined by firefighters and officials including Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) at the unveiling of a memorial to the dead, injured and first responders.

The Feb. 20, 2003, fire in West Warwick was started by a rock band's pyrotechnics.

The memorial unveiled Saturday in Warwick is meant to be a satellite to one planned at the fire site, which until recently had been held up due to legal and other issues.

Victims' relatives cried and held each other as the 100 names were read aloud. Several said they were grateful for a permanent place to come and reflect, although some also said they look forward to the day when a permanent memorial is built at the site.
