There was a shootout in Eugene between an intoxicated man firing a paintball gun and police firing rubber bullets and beanbag rounds.

Police won. Officers took the 49-year-old man into custody Sunday evening after about 30 minutes.

The Register-Guard reports the man fired more than 50 paintball rounds from his porch and front door and hit two officers. They had responded after his yelling and threats had alarmed neighbors.

Lt. Bill Solesbee says the man was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. He faces charges of assaulting an officer, disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment.
