The bodies of three women have been recovered from a car that plunged into the water at a Rhode Island shipyard after apparently missing a turn.
Newport police Capt. Russell Hayes tells the Newport Daily News that the car apparently missed a right-hand turn Friday morning and hit the water near the main building of the shipyard. The identities of the victims were not immediately known. The car had Rhode Island plates.
A diver with the Newport Fire Department found the three women inside the car.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan O'Hare told The Associated Press earlier that the car had been in the water for at least several hours.
The Daily News says an oil deliveryman spotted the car.
