Officials say a woman struck a conductor before pulling the emergency brake as a commuter train entered a northern New Jersey station.

NJ Transit police have charged Nadine Canty of Plainfield with aggravated assault, criminal mischief and interference with transportation.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says the 48-year-old had gotten into a verbal argument with the conductor before punching him as the train slowly pulled into the station at Summit.

Snyder says between 80 and 90 passengers safely exited the train, which had left New York's Penn Station Thursday afternoon.
